Collect Bean x The Art Kollective: What does growth mean to you?
Chelsea Seltzer: Something unwanted that the doctor cuts off or an increase in vision, perception, or understanding.
Collect Bean x The Art Kollective: What role does art play in society, and how does your work contribute to that?
Chelsea Seltzer: Art is a visual form of expression, and like any form of expression, it can be banal and trivial or deep and sublime. I use art to convey my thoughts on the beauty, irony, humor, and tension I see in the world and, most recently, in our natural environments, highlighting our relationship to nature. Within this I hope to allow people a different perspective and/or vision than they have had or seen before.
Collect Bean x The Art Kollective: How do you see your artwork fitting into the larger art world or art history?
Chelsea Seltzer: My work is part of the deep and rich history of landscape paintings, but seen through the lens of the 21st century, showcasing both the beauty and the horror of the natural world.
